Prison Ship in Portsmouth Harbour - Convicts Going On Board
Black and white etching, dated 1828, drawn and etched by E.W. Cooke (1811-1877). Published as part of Shipping and Craft, 1829.
Image size: 6 1/2" x 9 1/2"
Very good, clean condition throughout.
Cooke brilliantly descibes the miserable prospect facing those about to board this delapidated ship of the line now converted to hold prisoners, some of whom, no doubt, would have their passage paid to the likes of Botany Bay.
