Old Neptune takes his ease beneath the shade of palm tree, beside him to one side, a horn of plenty, on the other a flowing vase. He is kept company by a sphinx, whilst in the background a sea-fight is seen against the backdrop of pyramids. Above, in the tree itself Victory acknowledges the portrait of Lord Nelson; this plate also displays vignette portraits of fourteen Admirals and captains who engaged the French fleet in Aboukir Bay that day.
