An evocative moonlit scene set in Portsmouth harbour with Victory flying the Trafalgar signal. The text below the image gives an account of H.M.S. Victory and Nelson's time in her. It likewise recounts how, when he hoisted his famous signal at Trafalgar, the other ships of his fleet responded with a tremendous burst of cheering.
Charles W. Wylie (1853-1923), brother of W. L. Wyllie, was a landscape and marine painter. He studied at Leigh's School of Art and the Royal Academy School.
