This is a view of Greenwich Hospital taken from the south-west at a time before building gobbled up the open meadows. The bridge on Creek Road can be seen in the middle distance, cows graze and fishermen check their catch. James Duffield Harding (1798 – 4 December 1863) was a local man, born in Deptford and later resided in Greenwich where he taught for many years. His is noted in particular as a landscape painter, lithographer and author of drawing manuals.
