Greenwich Hospital
Engraved by Fredrick James Havell, after a drawing by William and Frederick Havell
Hand coloured steel engraving, published by J. Robins & Sons, Tooley Street, Southwark, circa 1833.
Image size: 8” x16 1/2”
External dimensions of frame: 14 1/2” x22 1/4”
Generally very good condition throughout, some slight score marks in sky. Full margins.
This fine engraving was printed as a headpiece for the Stationer's Almanac, and is likely to portray a visit by William IV and Queen Adelaide on their Royal Barge returning from viewing ships recently built at Woolwich Dockyard.
The busy scene includes many typical Thames craft such as Peter Boat, Wherry, Paddlesteamer, cutter, ketch and a City Barge.
