The World in Hemispheres with Comparative Views of the Heights of the Principal Mountains and Basins of the Principal Rivers on the Globes

Steel engraving with original hand colour by G.H. Swanston, from Companion Atlas to the Gazetteer of the World, published by Archibald Fullarton, circa 1849.

Image size: plus margins

Generally very good condition throughout. Tiny loss of surface above title, closed tear to lower margin, minor light foxing to upper margin.

A highly attractive twin hemisphere map, benefitting from insets illustrating the basins of the Amazon and Tocantins; La Plata; Great Lakes and St Lawrence; Rhine, Danube and Dnieper; Volga and Ural; Indus; and Ganges and Irawady; Mississippi and Missouri; Yenesei. The comparative heights of the mountain ranges are beautifully banded to denote the vegetation and geology.

An elusive and desireable map.
