This version of the map was designed by Harold F. Hutchinson, London Underground's publicity officer. who first produced his own adaptation of the original design by Harry Beck (proposed in 1931 and in general use since 1933) in 1960, much to Beck's shock and displeasure. Hutchinson's map is far less aesthetically pleasing than Beck's. suffering from harsh angles rather than curves and very cluttered and messy around Aldgate. Hutchinson's map was relatively short-lived and was replaced in1964 by a new version by Paul Garbutt who continued to design Tube maps for over twenty years.
