Geographical and Statistical Map of Ireland

Copper engraving, with original hand colour, by J. Aspin from Lavoine's Genealogical, Historical, Chronological & Geographical Atlas, published by M. Carey & Son, Philadelphia, 1821.

Size of sheet: 17 1/4" x 21 3/8"; size of map: 14" x 13"

The accompanying letterpress comprises a detailed account of Ireland's history; geographical position, extent and boundaries; ancient names; order of knighthood; principal sea ports, schools and coins:

'In 1800, partly by bribery and partly by intimidation, the union of Ireland and England was accomplished, whereby the former country surrendered its independent legislature, and in return is entitled to a very inadequate representation in the imperial parliament. Since that event, the debt of Ireland has been immensely increased; and its wealth been exhausted by the great numbers of the nobility and gentry who have removed to England.'

An unusual curiosity.

£300.00 plus postage and packing if required.
