"In this Map the Metropolitan or Capital Cities of Provinces are express'd in Capitals. Those Cities in which Councils have been held are mark'd with an Asterisk, and of those all are here mention'd except Nova Caesserea, Macriana & Juncum, of whose situation there remains no certainty. The position of many Cities here mentioned I think certain, more especially of the Maritime ones, and those which are joind to one another by lines, as being more freqently mentiond in Authors or known from Itineraries. The rest are plac'd not from any certain marks, nor yet wholy at random and without Authority."
An early eighteenth century map of the Western Mediterranean and North Africa.
