Old Sea Dog

Cast brass, in high relief, with a pleasing verdigris patina.

Probably dating from the early twentieth century.

Height: 7 1/4"; width: 6 3/4"

A well modelled full faced seafarer, finely detailed with particularly piercing eyes, presumably staring seaward.

An unusual piece of mysterious origin, rather like the Ancient Mariner himself, though equally redolent of the character once used to advertise Lifebuoy soap. Whether he be fisherman, lifeboatman or lighthouse keeper, his strange face reflects one with a lively awareness of the power of the sea.
