Lidded Tobacco Jar

Lidded terracotta pot with moulded embossed decoration, of unknown date and manufacture, but perhaps of late Victorian vintage. It bears inside the lid the label: 'J.H. Skinner IMPORTER OF CIGARS, PIPES &C. 92 & 93 HOLBORN HILL, LONDON. An image of a watercolour in the British Museum  proves that such a shop was indeed in existence from at least 1842 at this address.

Terracotta with green, white and black decoration.

4" diameter x 5 1/2" high.

Generally good condition, but with some chipping to the inside of the lid - hidden from the exterior.

A rather beguiling little pot; cunningly decorated - ideal for bacca - or a few teabags!
