Victorian Fairy Painting

Edited by Jane Martineau, with essays by Jeremy Maas, Pamela White. Charlotte Gere, Lionel Lambourne and others.

Royal Academy of Arts in association with Merrell Holberton, 1997.

168 pages, paperback.

Generally very good condition throughout, slight crease to back cover.

Published on the occasion of the exhibition at the Royal Academy, this comprehensive survey of the Victorian vogue for fairies, embraces painting, book illustration, music and the theatre. The work of Dicky Doyle, Richard Dadd and 'Fairy' Fitzgerald is well-represented, as is that of many lesser known names. The extraordinary gilded rustic frame illustrated on page 119 is a tour de force and well worth the price of the book alone.
